MEN OF THE 13TH KENTUCKY CAVALRY
CAPTURED AT GLADEVILLE, VA,
ON JULY 7, 1863
By Manton Ray Cornett

By allowing themselves to be caught off-guard, these men were taken captive by a much larger Union force in the town of Gladeville, Virginia, that today we know as Wise. We can only imagine their concerns and their fears as they were marched out of town toward a most uncertain future. Would they be able to escape? Would they be rescued or exchanged? Or, would they even be able to survive a war that now seemed to have no end in sight?
